STC Board Meeting
Date: April 11, 2006
Attendees: Richard, Jean, Joe, Jim, and Mary Ann Campbell
David Alt has not asked for a formal presentation of his
Distinguished Chapter Service Award at a chapter meeting. Joe will mail it to
David’s home instead.
Ragged Left – Joe submitted an article for the
newsletter. Jean Lundquist will be publishing the next edition very soon.
Jennifer Abbott offered to submit a 300 word write up on the May speaker.
Venues – Jean Lundquist submitted a spreadsheet of possibilities
and costs, and there was a discussion about it. Richard suggested St.
John’s Church, and Jim suggested the Rockridge California Savings. There
was also a suggestion to check on other Berkeley business conference
rooms. Jean will coordinate updated versions of the spreadsheet and
communicate via email.
Joe was disappointed in last month’s speaker. Perhaps it
might be best to have the speaker submit an outline, so it’s clear what it is
they will be talking about. Jim suggested dedicating a section of the website
for information on upcoming speakers. Perhaps there should be a way to
evaluate each speaker on our website.
Mary Ann Campbell was introduced as the chapter’s candidate for
VP Programs.
In June – Eric Hennum of IBM is speaking on an Introduction to DITA. It
was mentioned that Andrea Ames is a also a DITA expert, if we need another one.
Sandra Korzenny – Will speak about Apple Documentation in
July. The onscreen help Apple uses for their products is excellent.
It might be good to have a speaker on Technical
Illustration. There are several people interested in this subject.
Jim has not heard back from Joanne Hackos about Estimating
Documentation Projects.
There are presently three candidates for office: Joe, for
Elections Manager, Richard, for President, and Mary Ann. There should be a
candidate statement from each.
The tote bag insert for publicity at the National Convention,
discussed at the last meeting, won’t happen.
There seem to be 169 people in the Berkeley STC
community. This adds 10 new members, but also includes people who have not
renewed. That count is only done once a year.
The Berkeley STC website information has been stagnant in its
information lately.
Joe will update board aliases to reflect current/temporary
reassignments.
Touchstone is dead this year. We will do this year, what
was done last year, a smaller-scale technical communication competition
sponsored by the Berkeley chapter. Maybe we can do something between a
full-blown competition and what we did last year. Joe will check on it,
and whether or not we can access Touchstone funds. Jim suggested that we
should document what the Berkeley Chapter did last year.
Deborah delMazo – She has documented: tracking the cash box
contents, editing and posting to the website, depositing cash, etc. She
will finish out this year as Treasurer, and stay as long as we need her; she
will also do the year-end report. She will email our current balance to
the board.
Jim – Monthly meeting postcards have not arrived. Joe will
send another email reminding people to come.
Respectfully submitted,
Jean Lundquist
