Job Search Resources

For technical communicators seeking jobs, we offer several services to help you in your job search:

  • An Email Jobs List.
  • Links to other employment web sites.
  • Links to the STC salary surveys.

For employers/recruiters wanting to post jobs to the Email Jobs List, we offer two services to help you in your job notice distribution:

  • An email submission process to the Email Jobs List.
  • An opportunity to donate to the Berkeley STC Chapter, thereby ensuring that the Email Jobs List survives.

Email Job List for Job Seekers

The Berkeley STC Chapter maintains a free Email Jobs List, announcing the availability of Bay Area technical communication jobs. Jobs posted to the Email Jobs List are submitted directly to the Berkeley STC Chapter by employers and recruiters.

To subscribe to the Email Jobs List, follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into the email account where you want to receive job leads.

  2. If you use an automatic signature, turn it off.

  3. Send email to STCJOBSBA-L-request@stc-berkeley.org . Leave the subject line blank, and type the following command in the first line of the message body:
    subscribe

  4. If you use an automatic signature, turn it back on.

  5. Shortly after sending your email above, you will receive an email from the Berkeley STC Chapter welcoming you to the list and confirming your subscription. Be sure to save this message for future reference, as it contains your instructions for unsubscribing from the list.

We make every attempt to ensure the jobs submitted to the Email Jobs List are accurate and up-to-date. If you have any concerns about a particular posting, please contact Caroline Scharf (employment@stc-berkeley.org). Your feedback can help ensure the Email Jobs List remains useful to our subscribers.

Email Job Submissions for Employers/Recruiters

The Berkeley STC Chapter maintains a free email submission system for those who have job leads in the San Francisco Bay Area to post to the Email Jobs List. In this manner, Berkeley STC helps employers find candidates in technical writing, editing, illustration, training, desktop publishing, web design and other areas of technical communication.

The Email Jobs List is a targeted group of job-seekers who are specifically looking for technical communication positions in the Bay Area.

To submit a job lead (or if you have any questions), send an email to jobsba@stc-berkeley.org.

At a minimum, include the following details about your open position:

    Company
    Location
    Position/Job Title
    Status (full-time or contract, start date, duration)
    Salary/Rate
    Description of the Position (job duties, candidate requirements)
    Contact Information (name, email address)

NOTE ONE - FILE FORMAT:
You must send the job description in a plain text format (.txt) (as opposed to Microsoft Word or other formatter).

NOTE TWO - OPEN JOBS ONLY:
To ensure that the Email Jobs List is useful to our subscribers, we ask that you post only jobs that are currently open. If your position is no longer being offered within two days of posting it to the list, please notify us right away so that we can notify our subscribers. This does not include positions for which you received enough resumes or just hired someone—only positions that are no longer being offered.

If you or your company benefit financially from posting jobs to the Email Jobs List, your voluntary donation to the STC will help the Berkeley STC Chapter maintain and improve it. Please send donations to:

The Employment Manager

The Berkeley Chapter’s Employment Manager is Caroline Scharf (employment@stc-berkeley.org). The Employment Manager is responsible for handling job submittals and collaborating with other local STC Employment Managers on job-search resources for technical communicators.
